Inspired By



I've been meaning to do a style post on Monae ever since I first saw her on the cover of Creative Loafing over a year ago. She's an Atlanta-based singer who's made it big time - her debut album coming out next month was produced by Big Boi and she's featured in the August Vogue. It almost seems unfair that a 23-year old could be so talented and so stylish. She's got this great rockabilly/Motown vibe that comes off as incredibly modern. See for yourself: www.jmonae.com.

    I completely agree. I first noticed her because we share the same name "Monae" well it's my middle name...but anyway, I love her shoes in the first pic. I know my mom used to have a pair...hmmm.

    I've seen her picture lately in several magazines. She has a cool, fairly unusual style that really works for her. I'm interested in hearing her music. I bet I would like it!

    Woohoo, great choice! I love Janelle Monae! Her music is amazing and she has a totally cool, unique style! She kinda reminds me of Grace Jones the way she just does her own thing. Janelle seems nicer and not as creepy though...

    we had her on our cover about a year ago (southeast performer) - seeing her do so amazingly well makes me feel all warm and fuzzy! and she's the sweetest person too, just amazing. pretty much the coolest person in the world right now.
