Things are really beginning to heat up here in Atlanta. Usually I don't look forward to summer fashions because I never feel like you can be as creative without layers, but this year I'm determined to make the best of it. It's a good excuse to go through the accessories that I already own and work them into a warmer-weather outfit.
For example, Lauren used my brown woven belt with her new wide-leg jeans to give the outfit a vintage feel and the pointed piano scarf helps emphasize the vertical line.
Scarf: secondhand
Shirt: American Apparel
Jeans: Bill Hallman Atlanta
Belt: secondhand
I'm so happy that vests are still in style this summer. They add a lot of texture to an outfit without making it too warm for the season. On a side note, I made a quick trip to Office Depot today. The guy at the counter asked me what kind of stone was on my necklace. I had to tell him the truth...it's plastic.

Vest: Anthropologie sales rack

Lar: love your jeans. (me shorty no good with wide legs)
Cath: love your necklace.
You plant herb/flowers on the balcony. Love it that you two are dedicated like that!
You both look gorgeous and you've both been tagged. Please see details in my blog!
Both looks are fab. I like the hippi-esh(?)look of the wide leg jeans. And I too like the vested dress look!
I love those jeans and that vest! I think my summer uniform is going to be floaty sundresses anchored with tailored little vests.
ooh, great jeans!
Adorable outfits!
I was wondering if vests were still okay to wear. I've been wanting one, but I didn't want to look like a fool.
Lynn, thank you for the lovely compliments. Yes, i lurve my new herb garden... and it smells like I live in the Provence!
Jelenie, thanks- we love your blog- we'll definitely check it out!
August, that's what I love about the wide jeans too!
Katie, that sounds like the ideal uniform.
Juliam, thanks! I really wanted some high-waisted ones, but they seem kinda hard to find in the ATL.
Thanks, Wendy B!
Stephanie, we definitely say vests are still a go because I'm not ready to part with them just yet ;)
LOVE that plastic necklace!
You both look great! I wore a very similar outfit to the first one to college recently and got some strange stares. I know it sounds odd but where I'm from, a simple jeans and t shirt is the college uniform. I try to add little extras to make my look different, so stares and whispers are the norm for me.
Mona, it's from Target!
Danz, I think all of us fashionistas have to put up with stares and whispers. Most people just don't have our passion for fashion!
you both look gorgeous as usual. i love the way you're layering for the summer. i agree that it's hard here in the humid south to be excited over summer fashion. lar, i need you to tell me how to make my scarf look like that! as you know from our recent sheet-folding into toga experience, i'm not so good with the folding!
awww you should of said it was something else :D
I love the vest and there still in style.
