DIY Brushstroke Dress

Alya of Pomegranate and Patchouli recently did a great post on the brushstrokes runway trend for this spring. YSL, Chole, D&G, Vince, Thakoon and Rachel Roy all jumped on the brushstrokes bandwagon.

Vince dress available at SAKs

The bad news: most mainstream retailers have not caught on yet.
The good news: Teen Vogue has a great DIY project this month where Jason Wu shows you how to create brushstrokes on your own dress - hurray!

You basically just need a cotton dress and some fabric paint (see the detailed instructions here) and...
...Voila! A lovely runway-worthy dress for less.

(I'm I just getting older or are fashion designers getting younger by the second?)

i'm going to go out and buy a bunch of white t-shirts and try that. and then when i feel more comfortable with it, i'll buy a white dress.

I love this idea. It reminds me of the recent vogue shoot with Kate Bosworth where she wore a multi painted dress. I think it is so cool and I'm def. going to copy cat it. Just have to find a whit dress...

Thanks, ACP!

Wendy - that's brilliant! I'd wear a brushstrokes shirt more than a dress.

Alya, glad I'm not the only one who thinks so.

Secretista, I believe they just say to use fabric paint.

Lyn, i even like the dress without the brushstrokes.

O Lady E, I think he's 25 - he looks even younger!

Clare, I loved that Vogue shoot. Let me know if you find a white dress.

Ediot, I can't wait to see if other bloggers do this project.

Caroline, let me know how it goes!
