Chi-chi Stripes

For the last few days Atlanta has been blessed with absolutely gorgeous weather: 70 degrees, sunny, low humidity (a rarity in Hotlanta), a gentle breeze. Spring has not yet sprung. We'll still dip down below freezing and curse the cold a while longer, but this respite is dreamy.

I figured this was as good a time as any to fold up my mostly-black winter attire and put on some color. So...hellooo bright red skirt and blue and white stripes... and most importantly, the basket! I've always wanted to use a basket as a purse ever since I first laid eyes on Dorothy and Toto, but I never found the right one. This is from a lovely thrift store in Athens, GA called Dynamite- though originally I believe it was made for American tourists in Mexico (the rafia spells out Pueblo Nuevo around the sides). I've always been a fan of kitsch.

This entire outfit actually reminds me of a present-day Dorothy. All I'm missing is Toto and my ruby slippers.

Earrings: Heliotrope, Shirt: H&M, Skirt: AA, Basket: Dynamite, Shoes: Rainbow

Well, Toto, ruby slippers, and some pigtails. But glad you didn't take it that far. You look stellar, and the basket purse is a riot!

Dorothy's got nothing on you!!! You look great! Now click your heels and say, "there's no place like home, there's no place like home" :-)

Awe I love this outfit and those shoes are killer! As Kelly Kapur from the office would say, "It's Ammmmaaaazzzing"

Cute basket! I'm a fan of all things kitsch, too.

I have that AA skirt in the same color, but I always wear it lower on my body. I'll have to experiment with the higher-waist look when I get home.

No offense to Cath, but this may be my favorite out of all the many gorgeous, creative outfits that you and your beautiful sister have posted. Maybe it's because I thought I WAS Dorothy when I was 4...or maybe it's because I love stripes and Gladiator heels in equal measure...or maybe it's both! Thanks for the ongoing inspiration ladies...love it!

XOXO

You look amazing!! I love the nautical-inspired colour scheme and stripes, but you made the look so unique with the beige lace-up heels and the basket. Sheer perfection.

Although I do lament winter every year, it does make for a great event come early spring-everyone is so happy that they don't have to wear a coat that they dress in really fun and cool stuff. And how come sailor stripes always look better on girls than sailors?

Your ruby slipper alternative is so fierce, I can't stand it!!! The high waist action and stripes of this outfit is so fab.

So envious of this awesome outfit--who doesn't love a sailor look? & that purse, what a find.

I so dig!

Though, I think you'd elongate the line of your body if you wore the high waist at least 4" below your bust line. I think it will create a more fluid line. DIG the nude shoes!

Having grown up in Kansas, I'm weary of hearing "Dorothy and Toto" references. But you just gave it a whole new association for me. Cute!
