I'm not a fan of Salvador Dalí's surrealist paintings (however I do love his lobster phone) and I don't get what all the fuss is about over Robert Pattinson, but I would like to see him as Dalí in Little Ashes this summer.
Pattinson as Dalí, Javier Beltrán as García Lorca with Pattinson and Marina Gatell as Margarita.
The film follows the close relationship between Dalí and Spanish poet Federico García Lorca. The photo below right is what the two men actually looked like:
Lorca and Dalí. Dalí with his famous 'stache.
It seems odd that they cast a Brit to play Dalí (and Luis Buñel) - especially someone who doesn't look at all like the artist. But I won't be going to see the film for its accuracy. I'm just going for the costumes and set design. A good storyline and convincing acting would just be bonus.
What would you call that ribbon-like tie on Pattinson in the photo below? He looks like a non-Spanish matador. I'm also a big fan of the three-piece suit (don't even get me started on my love of vests), which seems to be prominently featured in the film.
The room in the photos below looks like something that would be featured in Domino magazine (R.I.P.). Check out the awesome wallpaper!
The trailer makes the film look like a Spanish version of Brideshead Revisited. Who's with me? Anyone else looking forward to seeing Little Ashes? Anyone know why it's called Little Ashes?

I can't wait to see this, Cath! And how is it that we live in the same house, work in the same city, breath the same air- and I had no idea about this movie... It does indeed look Brideshead-y... though Jeremy Irons never played a vampire hahaha.
I don't get the Robert Pattinson hype either. After reading those atrocious books (in my defense, I was ill and your judgment is impaired after imbibing an entire bottle of Nyquil), I'm pretty sure it has to deal with his ability to convey teenage sexual frustration effectively on screen. Also, girls tend to like grungy guys (myself not included... except for maybe Pete Doherty).
This movie looks great. I love that woman's hair. But I know that if I did it, I would look like a middle aged Korean lady.
I was little tired to the "Vampire" hype around Robert Pattinson but I can't wait to see him play a completely different character and it will be interesting to see if he can really act afterall. I love the picture with that awesome wallpaper. It's perfect! xxoxoxo
It looks good, and I've never seen Robert Pattinson in anything. The title is from Dalí's 1927-28 painting "Cenicitas" "Little Ashes." -Okay, so I looked it up! Do you think I'd know that off-hand?! :-)
I hadn't heard of it, but from the pictures it looks simply amazing.

I read about this film a few months ago and was intrigued ... now, even more so!
i'm really interested to see how this is, i like his work, but don't know much about dali's life. And how fabulous is that wallpaper?

Your question about the bow/tie thing RP is wearing...the answer is on the tip of my tongue! Dammit! It'll bother me all day now.
I think it's called a string tie. I could be wrong. But I think that's what it is. If you google string tie that's what comes up. And google's never wrong, right?
ps. I'm slowly overcoming my fear of the south. Although the heat may melt me.
Thank God you feel the same about Robert Pattison! I don't get it. And he's literally dirty. Like doesn't bathe. Not hot.
But Little Ashes, yes please!
Eye is pretty much all better OMG that hurt like a mutha! Thanks for your warm wishes!! XOXO
I don't care anything for Twilight, but I do get the whole Robert Pattinson thing... I'm kinda pervy like that, lol
I'm not Twilight fan, but I have to admit that I think Robert Pattinson is smoking. I'm not sure if I'm going to see this movie though (I don't know why it's called "Little Ashes" either) since I'm not a big biopic-esque movie fan.
I'm intrigued!
man the costumes and set design ARE amazing.. i adore a man in a three piece suit.. and suspenders even.
and yeah.. what is the deal with the fandom over r.patterson?? i don't get it either.. but then again i'm all old man fetish.
BTW dru is stuck in Atlanta right now.. his flight is delayed.. too bad he leaves in the AM.. or i would suggest y'all MEET UP.
completely agree.
don't like dali.
want to see the movie.
havent seen twilight and i'm not particularly interested in Pattinson (don't tell nadiyah) but this film looks awesome, how have i never heard of it?! looks like a must see, thanks for the heads up!

I'm intrigued purely for the art direction and subject matter, but I don't get the Robert Pattinson hype either. The Twilight sequel is currently being filmed in Vancouver and the entire city is on Robert Pattinson Sighting Alert. If I'd mustered the energy and attended the Vancouver Fashion Week Closing Gala I could've met the guy!
Hmmm the styling does look very similar. But then it's hard to escape the collective aesthetic everyone holds in their mind of a certain era. Robert Pattison as Dali will be interesting. All his teenage fans might be a bit surprised at the *closeness* of his relationship. Tehehehe. I'm waiting to see this!
I want to see it, because I've always been interested in Dali's life ever since our art history teacher told us about him back in high school.
Interesting choice in casting Robert Pattinson. I'd like to see how the movie will end up.
i lurrrrrrve vests too!!!! can't wait to see it
I'm so excited to see this film.
I am interested to know a bit more about Dali's life. I also am curious to see how Robert Pattinson's acting skills are in an in depth role.
hope you girls are having a great weekend!
He's a beautiful man-child, and I'd love to learn more about the movie, because I'm loving the images so far...
I'm definitely intrigued.
