Everyone loves the idea of Toms (buy a pair and a pair goes to a child in need), but fashionistas deride their appearance almost as much as a pair of Crocs.
I bought my first pair of Toms a few years ago and wore them all summer (evidence here). I know they are a little casual looking and there's nothing particularly gasp-worthy about them, but their mission is pretty damn convincing.
I think once and a while, anyone with an interest in fashion ends up feeling a little frivolous- especially when you are eying that seventh pair of unnecessary studded platform while a little kid running around Ethiopia bare-foot can contract a disfiguring disease through her/his feet.
So, I bought another pair. And this time I studded the crap out of them. I don't know if they really are the level of these, but would it convince you to at least look twice at a pair of Toms?
I plan to wear these all summer with the ubiquitous cut-offs (and yes, those cycle shorts) and an oversized tee. And yeah, I'll feel a little bit better than if I had given in to those $200 wedges that don't give a damn thing to anyone else but moi and Sam Edelman.

Good on ya, lady. Money well spent, and the studs look fabulous!
Can I just say that you make me smile?! A lot.
Yes, so true! These look rad, great job and great contribution to the cause!! Have a fab weekend!!

what a fabulous idea! charitable and cute at the same time.
go you!
Very cool! Love the result! And Tom's is such a great company :)

Yes crocs are hideous except maybe in black but they are v. comfortable. Funny story I borrowed my mom's orange pair for work one day and I swear I either over heard laughter or people saying how hideous they were, oh well least my feet survived the day.
These shoes are a great cause and they look super hot with studs.
Wow I've never seen a pair of Toms stepped up quite so studly! I know you will rock them, and meanwhile a formerly shoeless kid somewhere will be rocking his or hers :~)
These look great, and you're supporting such a great company at the same time!
these are fabulous!! great job :-)
Good for you darling!
Do they have an online store? how much is a pair?
I love what you did to them...they went from plain and boring to edgy and hip;)
xoxo

You made them so edgy!
The studs really transform them!
they turned out AWESOME!
Wow, what an amazing cause. I'll definitely have to check that out.. And probably stud mine as well.
white and silver is such a nice combo. Tom's has such a great mission.

Very cute!! It just transformed the whole shoe! xxoxoxo
Very cool. DIY and philanthropy. Not bad. They're like moccasins who listen to Joy Division and the Misfits.
Awesome modifications! Now they're like breezy beach shoes/badass biker slip-ons. If such a thing exists. Which clearly it does now.
Stand up for your right to comfy shoes, Lauren! These are great. And it'll be even more amazing after you've done the DIY studs.
Tom's is such a cool company with a great concept :)
I LOVE TOMS! And I love that you studded them! They need to make a studded pair...
Money very well spent! Love Toms and love what you did with them!!
I absolutely love Toms and espadrilles! I'm wearing them all summer :) And I do love the diy.
i actually think toms can look really cute with the right pair of jeans.. those studs do help, though :)
Love the Toms, but I do think you should get the Sam Edelman shoes anyway. I own a pair and they are the most comfortable shoes in my closet. You can get them for a better price at Free People. That is where I got mine.
studs+toms= freaking awesome!!!
your blog is soo fun i love it
looks aweosme..
Nice job!!! ...love Tom's.
that is so crafty and cool!!
i've always seen people use puff paint and the like to add flare to their feetware, but studs!! i never would have thought; that's sooooo nifty!!!
anything with studs is better!
the studs are a great idea! It looks MUCH better. Though I must admit the shoes look like a craft project (before they were studded). I'd like to see a picture of them on actual feet.
Dude. These totally rule.
Lauren, I recently bought my first pair of Toms last week and I love them. How do you avoid the "worn without socks" stench? Do you wear socks with your Toms or do you just risk it and wear them with bare feet?
