G20 Protest Style

There are many more qualified bloggers out there who can better explain the global economic importance of the G20 summit. And regardless of whether or not you think the protests in London were a bit on the superficial side, I imagine you'll still enjoy these photos from Spiked.

What the protesters lacked in substance they made up for in style. You'll notice in the next few photos that it's all about the accessories - scarves and hats especially. And there was no shying away from color!

Layers are essential for London protest activity and some type of khaki-colored, army jacket is preferred.

I love the photo below - somewhat reminiscent of My Fair Lady (minus the Consumers Suck banner). Newsboy caps are back!

Sunday Randomness

I love this homage to photoshop's screen display. It's made the rounds on the graphic design blogs (although I took the image from Siggelicious), but I thought some of you fashion bloggers/photoshop users would appreciate it :).

Two lovely looks from Face Hunter and Altamira NYC. I especially like the dress on the left - gorgeous material.

My weekend purchase: an owl sunglass holder from Heliotrope. The store had a fantastic 2nd year anniversary party last night. So to the peeps at Heliotrope, Happy Birthday!

Hot Hot Heat

After visiting June Shin's and Sally Jane Vintage's blogs I know I'm not the only one looking forward to fall weather and fall fashion. Unfortunately, living in the south I won't be able to wear any autumn fashions until late October. I have at least two more full months of shorts and tank top wearing. I'm not happy about this, but I'm going to try to make the best of it. The two street style shots below are helping me get re-energized about summer style.

Coachella: Summer Dressing Inspiration

Most of you fashion bloggers and style.com fans will have already seen the great coverage on street wear displayed at Coachella, but I've been desperately looking for some good summer inspiration and this is it.

Below: two of my favorite (and opposing) summer looks. The boho look on the left is updated with a maxi dress. And I love the graphic simplicity of the bright pink shirt, shorts and Tom's shoes combo.

If you scroll through all 34 looks, you'll notice there's a theme. Almost everyone's outfit is a compilation of vintage finds and Urban Outfitter/Topshop pieces. I think the three below are the most uniquely dressed of the bunch.

See it all on Style.com here.

Fashion Week Street Style Trends

I remember when platforms made a comeback in the late 1990s. Every girl (including myself) wore thick-soled, fat-heeled, hideously ugly boots. Luckily this time around the platform trend has taken shape in a more lady-like, summery style. Instead of the cluncky, 6" thick soles (remember all those reports of girls falling down escalators due to their mile-high platforms?), the 2008 platform has a tapered and shapely base that enhances the long lines provided by leggings and skinny jeans.

Inspiration: Ashley Oslen wore brown platforms (close-up is pictured above) with black pvc leggings (come to think of it, her's are probably real leather). Rachel Bilson paired her brown/white platforms with skin-tight jeans.

Street style mix masters showing off their platform/legging combos:

I didn't do a thorough search of platforms online, but here are a few that I liked:
1. Victoria's Secret: Studded T-Strap Sandal $59
2. Cutesy Style: Steve Madden Casita Heels $84.99
3. Endless.com: Pelle Moda Satisfy Platform Sandal $66.89

In addition to the platform trend, I also noticed a lot of people in the street style blogs wearing looser, more relaxed jackets. I love this look, but it will be hard to pull off because the jacket should still be somewhat fitted. In my experience, it's usually impossible to find loose, but fitted items (Jackets, pants, shirts etc.). They're hard to come by in thrift stores because most relaxed fits from the 80s and 90s are boxy. I might have to buy a boxier version and take the sides in. The search begins...

Oversized parkas have been trendy for the past few seasons, but I love the way this girl paired it with purple/pink tights. The slouchy hoodie goes perfectly with black leggings.

The two jackets below are more sweater-like, but I love how their shapes completely change the character of the outfits.

SJP on the Town

I found these photos on JustJared.com of Sarah Jessica Parker promoting the Sex and the City movie. There are a couple of things I really like about this outfit: the combination of white, gold and black, the high dramatic collar of the coat and the petite gold-handled handbag. The best part is the stylizing of the coat. I love how it's flipped out at the end, revealing the lining and the same studded belt that was seen on SJP while the movie was being filmed is used to cinch the waist.

Of course I have a couple of dislikes. The strap-y sandals look sloppy with all those excess tabs sticking out and I think a pair of shoes with slightly more toe coverage might have grounded the outfit more. But, at the end of the day, I'm no style expert and I'm not the one who's made millions by dressing Carrie Bradshaw.

Street Style Round-up

There's hardly a day that goes by where I don't check out at least one street style blog. They're an endless source of inspiration and more interesting than magazine fashion spreads.

I mentioned in an earlier post that I still love electric blue - regardless of the fact that it's no longer the It color of the season. Below are a few photos I found that prove I'm not alone. There's something very cheery about wearing a bright blue accessory on a cold, gray winter's day.
