Indie Craft Experience

We ventured outside of Decatur today and visited Indie Craft Experience, a one-day, outdoor market with 100 crafters sponsored by the Indie Craft Experience Collective. The mostly-cloudy sky made for great craft market-going weather and we had fun strolling through Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park. With over 80 tents we saw a lot of great hand-made books, silk-screened tees, cupcake coin purses, romantic jewelry, stuffed animals made out of old clothes, clothe-covered hula hoops, industrial furniture, button rings, handmade paper, and beeswax lanterns. Needless to say, we didn't come home empty handed.

Below, we're hanging out at the StitchMouth tent, owned by Molly Evans, a recent SCAD graduate who makes great birthday sashes, glittered paper and mix cd covers. We especially love her business cards on a stick (it's a photo of a stitched mouth). The instructions on the back of the card read "hold card in front of mouth, smile towards disgruntled coworker."

As you can see on Lauren's face, we were completely overwhelmed by the amount of craftiness going on. In addition to the 80+ tents, there was live music and a huge clothing swap tent.

Hand-painted sign for The Small Object tent:
Asian-y lanterns by Katy DeMent, The Paper Lady. All of her lampshades are handmade from 100% recycled material and dipped in bees wax. For those of you who are fans of The Brick Store Pub, these lampshades might look familiar to you. DeMent created all of those great shades you see hanging over the pub's tables and attached to the wall next to the booths.

DeMent's medium size lampshades are around $55 - a bit steep for our budget. We were in luck today, however. One of the shades had a small hole in it, so it was marked down to $10. It's now hanging in our living room:

Ladyshop had some great vintage slips and shared a tent with Inman Park's 1111 Teahouse.

Crafty headwraps:

The Sweet Honey Complex had the cutest knitted cupcakes, donuts, corn dogs and hot dogs. It has to be pretty great to have a cupcake coin purse!

To top everything off, the entrance tent was giving out these great swag bags. Contents: cute handmade magnet by Jodi, a button from Mint Clothing, ceramic pendant from The Family Chicken, miniature bumper stickers from Dining Room Experiments, $1 off coupon from Matt M. Cipov, Alternative Apparel magalogue, Alternative Apparel headband, a mini CROQ magazine and one issue of Craft magazine.

I know, they all looked so delicious! I have a feeling that if I bought the cupcake change purse, I would constantly be craving cupcakes every time I'd pull it out of my purse.
