Neon

I know this is a little bit kid-ish, but I still pick out my birthday outfits (not be confused with birthday suit- why aren't we allowed to pick those?). So this year I wore my new neon (sear- your-retinas neon) crop top from American Apparel and a black zip-up dress from H&M. I'm a big fan of the comfort of crop tops, but I'm not much for showing my belly to the world. I think it has something to do with exposing a belly-button which feels a little too Britney circa what? 2002? That said, I know things like neon and crop tops (regardless of how they are worn) are big no-nos on most people's wardrobe list. Would you wear either?

ps- Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Even if you weren't stateside for fireworks, I hope you were swamped with massive quantities of delicious food. Good times, noodle salad.

i recently wore a crop top and found the best way to skirt around the belly issue is a high waisted skirt. i think the belly button showing is where it becomes trashy.

This is fantastic! I agree with you on crop tops and neon, but this outfit is perfectly statement making. So bravo!

I've been out of the blogging loop for a minute (1 month) so it's good to welcome myself back to the blogosphere with this post!

Thanks!

I totally pick out outfits for my birthdays too. In fact - it's a tradition for me to always buy a new outfit. ;)

i love neon, though it is often hard to find a flattering shade. this is the perfect solution for a crop top sans belly button

Very nice, i agree, this definitely takes the crop top away from trashy.

I love the neon — and those are killer heels. I fully support your crop top paired with the black dress. Awesome.

And did you at Taqueria? Mmmmmm! Can't deny that Memphis taco.

You look great! I never say never when it comes to trends nowadays, since whenever I say I'll never wear something I end up eating my words.

You look amazing!

I no longer show my tummy, but if you want to (and have the figure for it, which you do), I say go for it!

I was just wearing the same shade of pink yesterday! I think that crop tops and neon can look on the right body types and the way it is worn. But it's not for everyone. Those shoes look great with that outfit! xxoxoxoxoxo

I love this shot, hair blowing in the wind really does make things extra lovely (please notice I said "extra"). I'm not big on trends, if it looks great wear it - and you wear it well :)
Totally agree, I wish I was allowed to pick my suit...

For some reason, I never tried a crop top...although I did rock a neon hypercolor shirt for a looong time.

Love your birthday outfit! I actually have been getting a bunch of crop tops recently- some of which show my stomach and some don't really because while they say they're cropped, they're slighly big on me. I actually just bought neon pink/orange/green heels- I'll have to post when I receive them in the mail from shopbop- I'm all for neons when done right!

Also, I took a few classes for copywriting at this advertising workshop/(not really a school, but it's more hands-on as it's taught by actual art directors and copywriters and has actual semesters), but it's not for me, at least right now. I'm an Interactive Project Manager so I work with the studio designers and developers :)

You rocked the crop top with the high waist. I am currently looking for a zipper-dress myself, but I am planning on pairing it over at graphic tee.
