The Painterly Photographer: Eugenio Recuenco

Do you ever have those weeks that are just kind of murky? Not horrible, just a drudge through the same ole, same ole? This was one of those weeks for me, so what better way to start the weekend but escapist fashion photography?

Technical Difficulties Make Us Grumpy

We apologize for this inconvenience!

At the moment, we are currently free advertising for photobucket (grumble, grumble)-and will be until we fork over more money.
While we work the kinks out, we'll be posting slightly smaller images through blogger. Thanks for your patience, lovely readers!

What were once happy, smiley twins have become grumpy, hostile pugilists (at least we're still sporting the high-waisted trend through it all):

Having a Bit of Fun Part 2

Every month I always look forward to reading the newest issue of Vogue - the gorgeous fashion, the smell of glossy printed paper mixed with perfume samples, viewing fashion through Andre Leon Talley eyes, reading about Plum Sykes' oh-so-perfect life...

But sometimes it's just fun to take the piss out of America's number one fashion mag. So here's another installment of Having a Bit of Fun:

If only the Joads could have owned clothing like this they wouldn't have had to worry about their crops - and Steinbeck would have written a very different book.

Drew Barrymore and Amber Valletta reveal their secret to staying so thin.

Blackglama Furs has an unusual definition of "legend."

An issue of American Vogue isn't complete without an image of a model in a quirky pose with a distant gaze.

This fur fashion spread in the October Vogue made me continue to question the appeal of wearing real fur.

More Atlanta Love

One of the reasons Lauren and I started this blog was to feature some of the great things about Atlanta. It's a big job, but luckily we're not alone. The guys of Esperanza are constantly designing and distributing great shirts that show off Atlanta's awesomeness. Our common love for the city and the creative t-shirt designs is why we keep blogging about Esperanza.

Below are the two latest limited edition designs.

1.) Deville: An Atlanta Halloween-themed homage to the Cadillac Coupe deVille and Charlie Daniels' The Devil Went Down to Georgia. You can get the shirt in Murderous Maroon or, my favorite, Hellacious Heather Gray. Nice...

2.) Southernplayatastic: Esperanza tips its hat to one of Atlanta's greatest exports. I can picture Andre Benjamin wearing this shirt under his Benjamin Bixby Leather Varsity Jacket.

Visit the Esperanza store here and help spread the word about our fine city.

Fall in Little 5

Just a quick outfit pic for the weekend. Lauren took this picture of me in Little Five Points. We were out shopping for last minute Halloween costume accessories - along with hundreds of other people. For you non-Atlantans, Little Five Points is Halloween Central filled with vintage, secondhand and alternative stores. I think the weekend before Halloween is the neighborhood's busiest shopping weekend. Did anyone else venture to L5P this weekend?

I took an awesome outfit pic of Lar, but right when I clicked the camera button the batteries died - curses! So I hope you can make do with only one half of the AsianCajuns for this post.

Jacket, cardi and scarf: H&M, cream shirt (you can't really see it): Pecan Pie Coutour, Jeans: Tarjay, Boots: Naturalizer.

Hope you're all having a lovely autumn-ish weekend!

Get Lucky!

We've just entered a contest through Lucky Magazine here. The aim? Just style an outfit that you would wear out at night with jeans. The lucky winner(s) gets to be in Lucky magazine and style a Lucky Brand ad! Delusions of being the next Rachel Zoe (just healthier, happier and slightly more well-rounded)- yes, please!

Below are our entries. Rate us please (click here for Lar and here for Cath) and/or add your own entry and we'll vote for you (just drop us a comment). Good Luck(y)!

On Lar: vest and tank, H&M; jeans, Cheap Monday; scarf, Tarjay; clutch, Asos.com; shoes, Newport News.

On Cath: tank, ROCKIT; jeans, French Connection; vest, H&M; boots, Naturalizers; purse, vintage.

On Lar: necklace, vintage; bag, Wet Seal (about 6 years old); dress, Old Navy; belt, vintage; boot, Frye

Around Town (ATL in October)

A few random images from the past couple of days.

Coffee at Octane: Why is Lauren reading Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning? She's not. In fact the only reason why she's holding the book is because we thought the colors on the cover complimented her outfit. Nice.

Bulldogs and lipstick: Spotted near the intersection of Ponce de Leon and Moreland.

Inman Park Goat: This goat was hanging out on the front porch of a large house in the Inman Park neighborhood. There was another goat resting nearby. We got the impression that they're kept to cut the grass and were patiently waiting to be let inside after a long day's work. Or maybe they are the family's pets?

Krispy Kreme Sign: Who can resist making a stop at Krispy Kreme when the hot sign is on? We definitely couldn't a few nights ago. On our way home we pulled over for some delicious Krispy Kreme coffee and original glazed - yum....

Hope you all had a great weekend!

AsianCajuns on "the Runway"

Oooo... doesn't Cath look beeeyootiful? The lovely ladies at Meringue wanted Cath to look 40s vintage, hence the matte red lips and cascading waves.

And oooo... don't I look sleepy? The vision here was equestrian. The friendly hairdressers from Soda pouffed my hair at the top and pulled the sides back into a sleek PONY-tail, get it? Harhar.

We had so much fun with all the lovely peeps at Fade into Fashion. Thanks, Caren, Kate and Luis! You guys are the best!

Runway Preview

Hello all! Apologies for the slight delay in blogging. We have two excuses for being AWOL. One, it's been an incredibly busy week for both of us (all this debate-watching, fashion show-ing has taken time away from blogging). And two, we've been trying to be more frugal - thanks to the economy going to pot - and frugality is time consuming (staying in to eat means taking time out to cook and clean, packing lunch means more time grocery shopping and preparing, not going to the dry cleaners means more time doing laundry. . . you get the idea).

Anywho, on to the fun stuff. As mentioned in a previous post, we were invited to be models in the Citysearch Fade into Fashion event Tuesday evening. Photos of our actual outfits from Meringue Boutique are on their way, but here are some teaser images:

These photos are deceiving because it looks like we're use to getting our makeup done for us. In fact I had no idea what the hell I was doing. I kept opening my eyes when I wasn't suppose to and I couldn't keep a consistent smile while the blush was being applied.

My hair was hairsprayed to death, but it still wouldn't hold, so I wore the hair clips up until the last minute. Lyle was a very patient makeup artist. I believe he is laughing at my face in photo below. . .hmmmm...

Even with getting our hair and make-up done and being able to wear fantastic clothes, the best part of the evening was seeing all the lovely peeps we've met through this blog. Tiffany Davis, editor of Atlanta's Daily Candy, was a fellow model and looked smashing in her outfit. I spotted June and Leila while teetering around on the runway. And we finally got to meet Jinah from Bonjour it's Jinah! (see image below).

More photos from the event to come!

Tag Time

Thanks to Savvy Mode and Songy of Style Discovery for tagging us!

This Four Things tag is proof of the exciting lives we lead: working, eating yogurt, watching T.V. . . We think Gwyneth could take some pointers from us.

Thanks for the tag, Savvy Mode! Here are our 22 Things:

I know a lot of you have been tagged already. Those of you who haven't and want to join in on the fun, considered yourselves tagged - and let us know when you post it!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

PS: Thank you to the lovely Sharon Rose for the blog award!

Fashion with a side of Art History- yum!

This D&G ad from Spring 2005 has been tucked away in one of my hefty art history books next to the page with Raphael's Deposition. Who would've thought that the masters of the sultry dress would be inspired by one of the most highly regarded depictions of Christ during the high renaissance?

It seems predictable that D&G would dress the three Marys in hot-pants and Jesus would be languid (not dead) and buff, but what of the chimp?

As my art history professor would to say, "Discuss."

(and "they are all Italians" doesn't count as an explanation ;)

Oh! And Happy Weekend!

Next Tuesday: We'll be Real-Life Models

And this is what I imagine:

Luckily there are some lovely fellow Atlantans who have more catwalk confidence in us. Thanks, Luis and Kate!

Cath and I get to wear some lovely pieces from Meringue (a local boutique), drink martinis and nibble finger-food.

Any of you locals planning to attend?

You're all invited!

Jacket Weather

I love early fall. There are many reasons why this is my favorite time of year - the crisp air, the colorful leaves and the nostalgia for buying new school supplies etc. But one of the more superficial reasons I love the fall is being able to wear all my jackets. Jackets to me are what shoes are to many women - a bit of an obsession.

I think my love of jackets started out of laziness. It's so easy and quick to try them on at stores - no need to find the shop assistant to unlock a dressing room, peel off layers, kick off your shoes. . . Needless to say, I'm not proud of this addiction. That being said, the only time I feel that my excess jacket spending is justified is during the fall. So here's to cooler weather!

Note: Lauren is not as jacket obsessed as me, but we both are all for the wide-leg denim trend.

On Lauren: shirt is Proenza Schouler for Target, jeans from Bill Hallman in Atlanta, sunglasses from Rockit. On me: shirt from American Apparel, jacket from Topshop (4 years ago), H&M jeans and F21 shoes.

Outfit detail below: I plan to wear my milagro donkey charm until November 5.

Milagro from Mingei World Arts.

A Decatur Weekend

We hope you all had a delightful weekend!

Here's a little of what we got up to:

Cath hanging with the Ramones (mural on the Johny's Pizza wall off Church St.):

Lar looking wee. Cath munching on a coffee house apple fritter:

A little NYC in Decatur (also part of the Johny's Pizza mural):

We also hit up some of our favorite shops in town, and drank too much at Rockit, Worthmore Jewelers and Eddie's Attic. We'll blog more about those goodies in posts to come.
