Big Angel Blow-Out

The earlier part of this past Sunday, Cath and I spent at the Big Angel Blow-Out (the latter part was spent making mac & cheese and watching the Colbert Holiday Special). The Big Angel is a top-notch craft fair held at Whitespace in Atlanta. Some of the crafters are old favorites (including June Shin and YeeHaw Industries) and some new ones too (stay tuned for the next post featuring Kay Moates).

Apart from offering crafty delights, Whitespace functions as equal parts gallery and my fantasy house. Located in the historic Atlanta neighborhood of Inman Park (home to some gorgeous, old Victorians), Whitespace has charm coming out of its old-paned glass windows. For instance, where else could you find a small outdoor shed full of paper cranes?

Dreamy, non?

Oh wow. The paper crane shed is very meditative. But also great location for fashion shots! I love those pink wayfarers. You ladies look like you had a great time.

The shed full of cranes reminds me of one of my favourite books as a kid--Sadako and the One Thousand (Paper?) Cranes. It was about a little girl in Japan who was terminally ill with cancer as a result of the lingering radiation from the atomic bombs. She started trying to fold a thousand cranes hoping her wish of getting well would come true.

I love arts and craft fairs, but unfortunately, the economy here in the midwest is particularly bad and a lot of the shows around here have gone away.

How did you like the Stephen Colbert special? My son and I thought it was pretty funny.

How have I never come across your blog before? What a shame!! I have a lot of catching up to do! Congrats on being featured in Atlanta Magazine and thanks so much for stopping by my blog. I've added you to my blogroll. Happy holidays.

I don't remember seeing that outdoor shed! Oh well, Susan's house is beautiful. I would love to own a house like that. :) Hope you found lots of goodies!

Mrs. R and Wheels on Fire, you two wouldn't be saying that if you knew how cold it could actually get! But there's no denying that it's hard to beat the awesomeness of Southern charm :).

Ana b., we did have a really fun time. I think the shed use to be the ice house back in the day because the floor is sunken in - pretty cool, right?

Terri, you're so right about the Anthro reference!

Lisa, now I want to go find that book! Although is sounds so sad!

Muriel, I don't know about hundreds of comments, but it would be fun to see if we get more visitors from the Atlanta Mag mention!

Liz Blair, that's horrible to hear about the lack of craft fairs. I hope Obama has some type of magic wand to turn this economy around. The Colbert Christmas special was ridiculous at times, but I really enjoyed it!

Tara, thanks for adding us to your blog roll! Have a happy Thanksgiving!

June, there were so many wonderful things in and around Susan's house. I loved all the garden sculptures!

Wow, this is so magical! It reminds me of an art installation I saw in Wisconsin of all places, where the artist had built a little house and filled it with these little images...but you know...it was kind of dark and creepy, now that I think about it. Like this little house's nightmare companion!

Cammila, you are too funny. I could see how something similar would be creepy, but this shed was definitely very uncreepy. It has white painted walls and there's a lot of sunlight poking through.
