Local Love

Do you guys remember this rad bag? I've been carrying it around everywhere this spring/summer. And now it's 15% off at Mingei! Go get yourself one- you won't be sorry!

For those of you in the Atlanta area, head on over to Mingei World Arts and Taste in Decatur for some sweet discounts this weekend. Here are the details:

Through the close of business on Sunday, the right password will get you 15% off on your purchase at Mingei World Arts and/or Taste on Church Street. Need to finish your Father’s Day shopping? Have a wedding gift to buy? Come visit one of these two businesses and give us the secret Asian Cajun password as you check out. Your password is “Lee Squared”. We are contacting other bloggers with other passwords, so show your Asian Cajun spirit and let the Lee sisters help you save a little over the next few days. It will be interesting to see which blog readers come in!

Fellow local bloggers at Decatur Metro and In Decatur are also participating in this. We hope you join in on the fun!

AsianCajun Seal of Approval

We've been huge fans of Heliotrope ever since it opened in Decatur a couple of years ago. For those of you who've never been, imagine your favorite gift shop and then multiply that by ten or better yet, check out Heliotrope's online store. Pretty fantastic, right?

So when the good folks over at Heliotrope offered to set up an AsianCajun discount page (for a limited time only!), we said, "Hell yes!" Actually, it was more of an inarticulate jumble of "what?!?! omg. yes please! Thank you!" And here's what they came up with:

We picked out our favorite items and now they are available for you all at a discount! (It's very recessionista friendly.)

Click on each of our favorite items and you can see what we love about them:

The AsianCajun shopping agents page will be up for the next couple of weeks, so make sure you check it out and take advantage of the discounts. Heliotrope ships worldwide so all of our lovely readers can part-take. Woohoo!

A big thank you to Julia, Tommy and Marc for making this happen!

Public Art in Decatur!

Last Saturday Catherine and I took a stroll around Decatur to visit some of our favorite spots (hello, Heliptrope, Eviva and neighbors!). We also made sure to stop by the mysterious bag art right next to Melrose on Ponce. After seeing it on Decatur Metro last week (great photos, Carl!), Cath and I decided we had to scurry over and see it for ourselves.

We have deduced that it is a baby elephant (though DM says "pup"). Our Decatur Dumbo is made of white plastic bags and gallops (do elephants gallop?) jauntily over a vent all day/night long. Recycled, public art! It doesn't get better!

* A note to readers not familiar with the AsianCajuns' "home"town, Decatur is located just 6 miles east of Atlanta. It's a small town that hugs a big city. We're very friendly.

Post Edit, 9:00pm Wednesday:
Meet the artist! Joel has done a bunch of other awesome public art installations- check them out on his blog here. He calls our elepup (good one Lady E!), Baby.

Also, for those of you who want to see Baby in action, check out Carl's video here.

Lastly, the outfit: hat, jacket and shoes by H&M, tee by alternative apparel, "wet" leggings are from Rockit.
