J.Crew Travels

Lauren and I are both unapologetic homebodies - there's nothing better than curling up on the couch with a book and a hot cuppa. But we also share a wanderlust that is never satisfied. These contradictory characteristics can sometimes make us downright miserable - always longing to travel when we're home and always wanting to be home when we're traveling.

After studying abroad for a year in college I think we both figured out how to enjoy traveling without missing the comforts of home too much and being at home without constantly wanting to be elsewhere. However, our study abroad experiences were over four years ago and I'm now getting desperate for a real trip. (Visiting home and going to business conferences don't count.)

Unfortunately with rising food costs, $4 gasoline and an incredibly weak dollar, it doesn't look like I'll be traveling anytime soon. These romanticized images from J.Crew's September catalog (taken in Prague) are the closest I'll get to a European vacation in the foreseeable future.

Our only upcoming traveling plans is a camping trip at the end of September. More on that later...

I hear you about traveling. My next trip is going to be to Asheville, but I'm excited since I've never been, and hear it's great.

It’s s really frustrating that rising food costs, gasoline and a weak dollar issues had stopped us from traveling. I have found a website where you can find effective ways to find cheap flights, cruises and hotel accommodations. Take a look on it; hope you will find the best fare deals to Prague.

j.crew is the number one source for things i cannot have and want want want. sigh. i was only in england a few months ago, though it was just for the weekend, and it seems that i shall never leave this city again. we're thinking camping is the only affordable (but fun, and probably more relaxing) option we have too.

yeah, I heart the new j.crew fall catalog. le sigh. I was in Europe last summer but that seems like ages ago!

after my first trip abroad it seems like i've acquired an addiction that needs to be filled twice a year.. but alas, i only have enough vacation days and funds for a once a year trip.. of course a 2 week trip seems just perfect.. because by the end i'm yearning for my own bed. so i totally feel you on the yearn for both.

I know what you mean about prices rising. My son and I stayed in town to save money this whole summer. I'm not really complaining though because our town is quite beautiful and peaceful in the summer.

Sometimes the best vacations are spent at home.

June, Asheville is a lot of fun. It's like a more mountainous Decatur with great independent shops. Make sure to stop by Malaprops - a large indie bookstore and cafe.

Hi Sharon! We haven't actually gone camping in years. It should be an interesting experience.

Thanks Miss A La Playa!

Jhazline, thanks for the tip. I'll start looking once I have some money saved up.

Theleila, let me know if you go camping. I could use some tips. I bet your trip to England was lovely!

joblessandjaded, I know the feeling. And most of the time I like the J.Crew catalog better than the clothes!

You said it, Ambika!

Issa, two weeks is the perfect amount of time. I'd love to spend two weeks in only one or two cities so I can get know some of the local places.

liz blair, you're right. Sometimes staying in town is the best. Decatur is a lot of fun in the summer, so I shouldn't complain too much. It's not like I'm stuck in the burbs!

i couldn't agree more...my grandmother's Czech so i've always wanted to go to Prague. besides the amazing Fall clothes, Jcrew made me desperately want to travel as well!

Ah, the open road. I don't know anyone who travels a lot who would use that old-fashioned suitcase though...too heavy.

Those are nice images. They make me want to travel, but that's not on the cards for me anytime soon. I'd like to say I'm content where I am, but that would be pushing it—autumn always brings out the wanderlust in me.

wow. we don't get catalogues like that. Only catalogue I get is from IKEA and that is it. And only once a year. :P

I guess I'll have to sign up so that I can get them online!

I really need a holiday.

Hi I am from Prague.
Just to clarify, the first and last photo is not from Prague, but the "Cervena Lhota."
http://www.cervenalhota.cz/cervena-lhota-zamek.php
This is about 150 km southeast of Prague.
Travel is also my desire and the power I wanted to go to Paris or New York.
Come to Czech Republic! We have many monuments, not only in Prague, and beautiful places throughout the country.
