Getting Ready for the Decatur Book Festival

While most of you all will be heading off to the beach or the mountains this Labor Day Weekend, Lauren and I will be taking a more erudite route. For the next three days we'll be immersing ourselves in an abundance of eruditeness by attending the annual Decatur Book Festival.

As you can see in the images below, we are very, ahem, seriously brushing up on our Dorothy Parker and Colette to prepare for the weekend.

Actually, in all seriousness, the book festival isn't very serious at all. It's more like one big party in downtown Decatur with books, authors, humorous poets and funnel cake! We're looking forward to hearing from former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins, Decatur native and "Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me" panelist Roy Blount Jr., graphic artist Skip Williamson, and many, many, many others (over 200 authors are coming to town this weekend). Then there's also the writer's conference, a dance performance of Shirley Jackson's short story The Lottery, a street fair packed with book-related exhibitors, The Wren's Nest Publishing Co. Literary Salon, and did I mention funnel cake?!

It really doesn't get much better than this. So if you're in the Atlanta area this weekend, stop on by!

Have fun ladies, and make sure to eat ton's of funnel cake for this Florida gal!

Okay, I don't know if we at times share the same brain, but I just pulled out my Portable Dorothy Parker book yesterday! I bought it MONTHS ago, but never really read it yet. I really hope its good.

PS-my word verification looks like the word 'vulgar'. Just thought I'd share. :P

Hi Ambika! We try, we try...

Stephanie, we must be totally on the same book wavelength. The Portable Dorothy Parker is a classic. I love how the blogger word verifications always almost look like words!

Kokostiletto - I second that!

Hilarious and cute! I like book and writers' festivals. I get to hear some interesting stuff from articulate authors. They are fun to listen to.

Have fun.

I love the photos--nice glasses! Back in your old hometown, the National Book Festival is on September 27. I attended the first one (very accessible--met a lot of of authors) and have skipped some in between. One of the authors I'm interested in is Alexander McCall Smith, who is also a professor emeritus at the University of Edinburgh. Y'all know that place! (Fashion comment: The professor is a happy-looking guy in a kilt! It suits him.)

I like the fun pictures of you guys. It must be so exciting to live in Atlanta. I will probably be doing a lot of knitting and reading this weekend. I also regularly volunteer at our local homeless shelter and will be doing so here on Sunday night.

Have you guys checked out the Twilight series yet? I couldn't put it down.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone!

Mare, we're so jealous you get to attend the National Book Festival! We love Alexander McCall Smith.

Liz Blair, we've both read and enjoyed Twilight, but have yet to read the other books in the series. Are you excited about seeing the movie when it comes out this fall?

Hello Skip Williamson! We really enjoyed your presentation. Thanks for signing a book for us and stopping by our blog!

June, we usually don't make it to the Shade Fest b/c we're tied up with the book fest. There are way too many things happening in Atlanta this labor day weekend.

The clothes horse, that is too cool! Did your sister enjoy the festival?
